About

Two people, one phone line at a time

TurnTaker is a small Australian company building one thing: an agent that answers the calls a business cannot get to, and a dashboard that shows what it said.

Why

A phone that rings out is a decision nobody made

Most small businesses do not choose to let calls go. They are on a roof, on another line, or asleep. The call arrives anyway, and the person on the other end goes somewhere else.

The obvious fix is a person, and for most businesses on most nights that does not add up. The other fix is a voicemail nobody rings back.

We think the interesting middle is narrow and specific: the questions a business gets asked after hours are mostly ones it has already answered, and the rest are a name and a number written down properly. That is a small enough job to do well.

So TurnTaker does not try to be a receptionist. It answers from what you have published, puts people through by your rules, takes a message when it cannot, and tells you what it did. Where it does not know, it says so — which is the whole difference between something you can put on your line and something you cannot.

Who you'll talk to

Both of us, every time

There is no sales team, no support tier and no queue. You get the people who wrote it.

[REVIEW: founder name]Product and engineering

Writes the agent, the pipeline and the dashboard. If an agent says something odd on your line, this is the person who can tell you which turn of which call you mean and why it happened.

[REVIEW: co-founder name]Clients and onboarding

Sits with you and writes what your agent knows: the answers, the rules for who gets put through, and the words that make a message urgent.

Names, photographs and the sentence each of us wants here are ours to supply, and they have not been. A biography nobody wrote is the one placeholder that cannot be fixed after it has been read.

How we build it

Four rules we do not bend

They are in the repository as much as on this page, and most of them are enforced by a test rather than by anybody remembering.

  1. 01

    It says what it is

Every caller is told they have reached an AI before anything else happens. No setting can turn it off, move it later or soften it, and a test over every combination proves it.

  2. 02

    It does not guess

No published answer means it says so and takes a message. There is no web search and no general knowledge behind it — only what your business wrote down.

  3. 03

    A person publishes

Nothing your agent says reaches a caller until somebody publishes it. Not a model, not a queue, not a schedule. The database has no path that could.

  4. 04

We write down what we do not know

Where the audio is processed, how long things should be kept, whether to record by default. All three are open, all three are on the security page, and none of them is described as nearly settled.

Come and argue with us about it

If you run a business whose phone is a problem, we would rather hear about that than tell you about this.
